Sports Betting is a multi billion dollar industry. Nothing quite beats the thrill of wagering on a team and seeing that team come up tops by scoring a last minute goal. It’s one of the few things in life that can literally make a grown man up jump up and down in ecstacy, or sob in tears after the final whistle. Such is the passion of sports betting.
But with the thrill, I see and hear too many stories of heartaches. I too have been through many rounds and years of heart ache. When I first started betting in soccer, I remembered betting heavily on a Brazil team in the World Cup Final in 1998. And needless to say, they were thrashed 3-0 in the final and I had to give lots of tuition for the next one year to pay off the debts incurred. That was a horrible experience and one that I would never wish upon anyone.
But because I love soccer so much and also because I am in love with the thrill of watching soccer, I begin to study sports betting in more detail, experimenting and trying out strategies. The more I learn, the more I gained. The more I gained, the more I win. The highlight was a few years back when I won a seven team combo which netted me a cool 10k in one day.
In this post, I would be sharing some things that I have learnt over the years and also some picks at the end. Let me emphasize, these are things that have worked for me. It will not work obviously for every match, but in the grand scheme of things, the probability of winning will be higher than losing and that’s all that matters. And please take what I say with a huge pinch of salt and if you want to follow my picks please do so but remember I never guarantee wins. There is NO SUCH thing. Even if someone came to you and say they have paid off players to throw a match, it’s NEVER a guarantee. There are way too many things involved in a match with 22 people plus one referee. It’s impossible to pay out everyone.
So here goes.
Why soccer betting?
First and foremost, like any other form of gambling, you need to first have the interest in it. With interest comes knowledge. It’s the same thing as people who invest in stocks and shares and are successful. You need to have an interest in business and spend lots of time understanding and studying different businesses and stocks. If not, it would merely be a gamble and you are better off just either buying 4D or taking a trip to the casino and betting on red vs black at the roulette table.
The single biggest difference between gambling and sports betting is knowledge. Yes, it’s that simple. The more you know, the better your decision will be. This is why I stress that you must first have the interest in the sports because when you have interest, you will then have the desire to read up about it. For instance, it will help you in your decision making when you know which player is injured, how the manager likes to play, which players are on form, history and even studying stats. It’s a lot of work, but if you do the work, in the long run, you will be able to reap the rewards. But reading up on news, punter’s opinions, etc are crucial.
The single biggest contribution to my losses had been lack of self control. This usually happens when I let emotions take control of my bets. And this normally happens after a big loss or a last minute frustrating loss or a stupid penalty decision. Whatever the reason, a loss is often hard to take and as humans we will be emotionally affected. But the problem begins when we let the emotions take control of our next bets. Usually because we want to recoup immediately or we don’t like to end the day as a ‘loss’.
This has happened to me many times, and to be honest, I am still learning the art of self control. How to manage my emotions and my staking habits. In sports betting, you have to be patient. You have to be able to take the hits. You have to recognize that there will be days when you might have a long losing streak. But if you stick to the winning strategy and not let emotions take hold of you, then in the long run, you will be a winner.
Statistics show that the odds of a home team winning a game is around 50 percent. The advantages of a home team is huge especially when the stadium is packed. If you have played sports before, you will understand how much the crowd cheering for you will push you beyond your normal motivation and how much it can also influence referee’s decisions, etc. To top if off, the away team has to travel long distances (especially for european matches), add to that unfamiliar playing surfaces, weather conditions, etc. all contribute to the unfair advantage of the home team.
I have made it a point to mainly choose home teams in my bets. I would say about 80-90 percent of my bets are the home team. In the long run, it will pay out.
Science and Arts
Sports betting is a combination of the science and the arts. What do I mean by that? The science of it is in studying the statistics and players and strategies and finding as much information as possible about the teams. But the moment you pull the trigger is always the ‘arts’, that intuitive feeling that grabs your body and soul. The success of a person in sports betting will depend on both.
Proper money management system
If you are serious about sports betting, you need to learn a proper money management system. You can google that easily. I am not about to cover it here. My recommendation is always same amount bet on all matches. You need to figure out how much money you can afford on sports betting and then play a small percentage of that in each match. The crazy people are the ones who bet all their money all at once.
No ‘sure win’ games
Repeat this to yourself until it gets through your thick skull. There is NO ‘sure win’ games! It has never happened, and will never happen. If you believe in sure picks or get rich schemes, then you are basically an idiot and you should stop all forms of betting because you WILL lost ALL your money.
Know when to stop
Friend, one last word of caution. If you have been losing money over the months or even years, it’s either you don’t even have a strategy, or you just have no self control or don’t know what the hell you are doing. If so, please STOP. You might literally be better off going to the casino or the Singapore pools outlet to try your luck at 4D. Either one will end up terribly for you as well. You need to be self aware and know when to stop. There is a saying that Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. Don’t be insane.
Finally my picks of the day.
Please people. This is not a sure win thing. If you want to try, please go ahead but please take it with every pinch of salt. These are bets that fit into my system and in long run I am confident they will reap rewards BUT in the short run (meaning today), all the bets potentially could lose. So bet responsibly and bet with extreme caution.
